Hot Chip

This is my own Footage for  Hot Chip's song 'I feel better'  that I have created as a short video, for 30 seconds of the songs duration. This is a clear example, that i am able to cut and edit a song, to fit a sequence.

Individual Idea

The Fergies concept for the song "Clumsy" was already expanded upon in the opening of it. The inspiration was clear, that it follows the idea of an abused child,  I have chosen to do a similar concept, but different, in that it is more like Chase and Status's "Time" for my own one.

Location(s):
School(s)
Home/Foster Home
Alleys
Park

These locations will look into what kind of person the main character is, as well as what they go through on a daily basis, creating a short back story into who they are.

Characters:
Pre-Pubescent girl (victim/main character)
Boy
Siblings (Of the main character, minor role)
Abusive Father
Police
Teacher(s)

Their roles and actions mainly centre around the main character, and frame the situation the main
character is in.

Lighting:
Blue/Grey
Dismal
Dark

The use of lighting will represent the inner turmoil of the main character, and suggest the lack of comfort they feel about the world around them, but there will be some instances were natural bright light (setting sun) will appear, suggesting some form of hope (mainly when the character is alone) is within them.

Narrative Video:
Like "Time" it will follow the journey  of the main character, and their eventual escape from the abuse they suffered from the hand of their assailant.

Test Footage.

Here is a short clip demonstrating how I envision my individual idea. This task helped acted as a visualization sketch, giving me a rough idea on the cinematography elements that I may need to considering, or change later for my final video. This also helped when identify what could possibly go wrong or not look right. For example I discovered I did not like the lighting used in this test footage. I came across as too orange toned for me, completely opposite to the cold tones I wish to achieve.

Hot Chip Edit.

Here is my Hot Chip individual edit. It is not my best work as I left this task very late but I manage to edit together various clips to the music and create a loose sequence. The clips themselves were jumbled up within hours of footage taken. By completing this task I have learnt how difficult the editing process will be when editing our own videos. I've also learnt the importance of organizing my footage to make the whole process easier.

Individual Idea.

The Fergies released the inspiration for the song and I will be using their concept in my own idea. The song itself and its topic strongly reminds me of "Concrete Angel."

My main charcter will be a boy of 14-15. The boy is physically and emotionally abused by his abusive father. His mother is the neglectful type, scared herself, she usually lets the abuse happen and turns a blind eye to avoid the violence herself. The boy chooses to hide the causes of his injuries, playing them off to teachers and friends.
For hyper-real aspects, I was considering adding the element of pathetic fallacy to represent the events happening. Lighting, clouds and storms. This inspiration came for Rihanna's "We Found Love" video.
Location wise I would keep in simple. A working class urban town. House and school scenes.
Cinematography; Black and white will be my colour scheme, representing the theme of good and bad.
The video would be entirely narrative.

By completing this task I manage to generate ideas and gain a starting point when discussing a final idea with my group.

Music Choice and Brainstorm.

The Fergies- Clumsy.

Sophie's. ^^^^

Deborah's^^^

After listening to the groups songs we decided on "Clumsy". Noticeable one of the groups more serious songs, we figured we could explore our options more. With a fairly simple beat and understandable story being told within its lyrics, ideas generally came easy.
By listening to the song choice we were able to identify key words, therefore generate ideas for the music video from these simple words. This helped get the ball rolling on planning.

Digi-Pack

For the Digi-Pack, I had (originally) chosen to do a Florence + the Machine copy of the CD cover for Lungs, her debut album. But i had some difficulty in trying to match the cover as best i could, and wound up shooting an entirely different album cover from the original, but somehow matched the cover of the CD case "Heartlines"  conveniently enough.

I used both Photoshop, and the edit Tool on iPhoto to achieve the look of my cover, darkening and lightening (or in particular, the use of boost colour) to achieve the effects on my album cover, along with an Over-lay to make the picture seem as "natural" looking as possible.

I could not find a particular back cover for the album Heartlines, but i chose to improvise a little, by creating my own backing cover, and a close replica to the "lungs" cover as best as I could. I used the same method in creating my cover Heartlines but instead, used a different Overlay.

This is my own backing cover I made, in a bid to both experiment and try an achieve a unique look to some what resemble the back, of how i believe the Heartlines backing would look.

This is the original back cover for the album Lungs

This is my own version of the back cover of lungs. although i could not match the backing entirely,  i used photoshop to create a clear resemblance to the two, as best as i could. adding the numbers to certain parts of the organ, and adding a Bar code to try and create a clear resemblance in the two. Also, because of  the lack of space, i  was not able to squeeze in the song titles, due to this.

Digi Pack.

I've chosen to recreate Demi Lovato's Digi back for her album Unbroken. Lovato stereotypically sings ballads and aims for the pop/rock genre. Considered mainstream and heavily marketed.
Based on her typical sound Lovato sports a mature look in her album photo and sits to her typical dark and classic colours. While recreating this album I developed my skills on Photoshop and now feel semi-confidant with the software. I also edited in IPhoto on the mac computers and feel similarly about that. The hardest part of the process was trying to create the background. In conclusion I changed the backgrounds slightly but kept with the same tone. I tried to keep to Lovato generic conventions while completing this task as closely as possible.

CLIENT.

The Fergies.
The Fergies are a band formed of 5 siblings. They write original music and post their songs onto YouTube, sell it on ITunes and communicate with their growing fan base. The Fergies typically are classed as a indie pop group.

The Audience.
After researching The Fergies audience I discovered that two thirds of their fan base is female. Most are aged between 14-18, also they have quite a large international audience. A lot of the followers and YouTube subscribers and avid YouTube watchers, this illustrates uploading the video to YouTube will please their audience. Their stereotypical group I would class them as is somewhere between scene and  hipsters.

By analysing our client and their audience we gain an insight on how to package our client.
