Girl Band Analyse. RD
HIP HOP. URBAN.
The girl band RD have a hip hop/urban image. Wanting to be presented as tough girls, they portray themselves as so in their music video "Do It Like Me".
The location varies between buildings and scenes in Camden. In one scene the girls are dancing on a rooftop with London's attractions in the background. This gives the impression that they are just shy of the outskirts of London, portraying that they are outcasts and live outside of the box. As showing London creates their identity as British Artists. Unground clubs are also feature, illustrating the working and lower class.
The girls are also presented as very dominate and sexualised females. Scenes are shown of the girls boxing and walking into the underground club without problems. To gain access to those types of clubs, you must have a certain level of respect and contacts. They are also sexualised in their clothing choices, wearing tight and revealing clothing such as crop tops. The clothing choices also reflect the hip hop genre, with one of the girls wearing s snapback and gold jewellery.
Graffiti is featured throughout, a characteristic of the hip hop sub culture. It promotes the idea of criminality and the girls being tough.
The video is very fashion and dance based. A dance/rap off is shown in the club, along with a dance routine they perform at every chorus. while the girls and continually changing clothes throughout the video. Over-all; the audience they are targeting is mid-teens, male and female.
